The Ministry of Evangelization in Bidar

Christianity arrived in Bidar in 1896 with the arrival of the Methodist pastors from America.

In the year 1982 the diocese of Mangalore adopted Bidar as its missionary venture. This part was under the jurisdiction of the Arch diocese of Hyderabad, Belgaum and Bellary. It was raised to the status of a diocese in 2005. The new diocese of Gulbarga comprises of 4 districts of Karnataka: Bidar, Gulbarga, Bijapur and Yadgir. We have catholic presence – parishes, quasi-parishes, new catechumenate villages.

Don Bosco Mission, Chickpet

Salesian fathers of Don Bosco enterd into Bidar in 2006 at the request of Bishop Rev. Dr. Robert Mirand to start a Technical school to impart formal and non-formal technical skill training for the rural poor youth. The Salesian community after studying the situation of the place started to work for childlabourers. The focus of all our works is the evangelization or proclamation of Christ.

Rev. Dr. Robert Mirand, the Bishop of Gulbarga, erected Don Bosco as a quasi parish Mission at Chickpet, Bidar on 21st May 2017.

Pastoral and Spiritual Activities in the Villages

We regularly carry out our pastoral and spiritual activities in the nearby villages of Bidar. In Dadapur (10 km from Bidar), we celebrate Sunday Mass and conduct catechism for children, along with weekly Rosary and Bhajan services. In Namthabad (20 km away), we visit every Tuesday for prayer services, family visits, and faith animation. In Mamankere (5 km from Bidar), we have weekly visits for the proclamation of the Word of God. At Don Bosco Chickpet, we celebrate Mass on Sundays for our boarding children, Christian families, and staff, along with regular prayers, rosary, and Mass on other days of the week.
