Don Bosco ITI

The ITI College and Training of Village Youth

Don Bosco Industrial Training Institute is a dream project of the Salesians of Don Bosco for the poor and marginalized youth in the district of Bidar. The presence started in the year 2008 and from 2009 onwards, Salesians have been imparting technical training to youngsters hailing from 35 villages in the district of Bidar. Since then over 250 youth have been given formal and non-formal technical training every year. On an average above 70% of this youth have been employed in different sectors.

We are the 1st in the district to have the accreditation by the Quality Council of India for the ITI. Don Bosco ITI is affiliated to the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) on 8th September, 2014. There are four approved formal trades such as Electrician, Fitter, Welder, IC&ESM. Apart from this we have two non-formal skill training such as Tailoring and computer. The ITI is also attached with a hostel for students from faraway places and who are economically poor.

Skill Training Programme

This is an addition to the above projects. D. B TECH [a registered society with the membership of all the Don Bosco Technical centers in India] has been able to rope in some 4 projects for the whole of Don Bosco India for the transformation of the Rural youth. Accordingly we were asked to provide technical skills to some 40,000 youngsters by 2012. Don Bosco Bidar had been also chosen to be part of this big project where rural youth were imparted various job skills through MES [Modular Employment Schemes] training programmes free of cost. They were also trained in spoken English as well as in soft skills. The programme was aimed at giving 80 % or more job placements to the trainees by the end of 3 month courses. Don Bosco, Bidar had already launched this programme on 15th July 2010. The training was already given in 3 trades namely: Computer [ITES], Tailoring [ISMO: Industrial Sewing Machines] and in Sales and Marketing [Retail Industry]. It was able to impart free training to more than 300 rural youngsters hailing from about 25 villages in the district of Bidar with BPL cards. About 61% of these youngsters were placed on various jobs in Hyderabad, Bangalore and elsewhere. Although this programme had already come to an end, a similar programme is running at Don Bosco, in a tie up with some Corporate Companies.
